Salamon writes to Dear King of the Poets, I belive he is referring to Markham. Salamon tells Markham that his letter made him cry and he is still crying. He is arranging the Pan American Dinner in his honor. Salamon is waiting for two people to arrive. When they do they will have the dinner he wants Markham to send him his message to the Latin American poets.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
